What does the program cover?

The program gives you the tools and resources to operate a successful business. You will learn how to research your business opportunity, develop marketing skills that fit with your holistic approach to life, and write a complete, practical business plan that helps you achieve your goals.

Who is the instructor?

Doctor I. Johnson is a member of the Faculty of the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition in Vancouver, where he teaches courses on Nutritional Research and Business Fundamentals. He is an expert on Marketing for Professional Service Businesses, and is an author, speaker and consultant.

What format is used for training?

The program is given in a small-group teleclass format. The program includes extensive support through coaching and mentoring. Participants are expected to prepare a schedule of business activities for each week, and share their report in the TeleClasses.

Class size is limited, so register early!

Who is eligible for this program?

This is not an academic program. You must demonstrate a “just do it” attitude and entrepreneurial spirit. You will be challenged and are expected to be resilient and self-motivated.

Before you are accepted, you will be required to demonstrate that you have a sound business concept by providing a brief written outline of your business idea.

  Curriculum Modules

1. Personal Attributes – the self-management process. Owning a business challenges you to master the skills of your life and your profession.

2. Process Management – how you manage your business systems and procedures. If you have a problem, make it into a process and then you will have success! Professional work requires attention to many details. Mastering your business systems will assist you to manage your enterprise.

3. Planning and Scheduling – how to organize the way you design, start and run your business. It involves the elements that can make or break delivery of your services. Start your practice in a way that prevents problems and fosters success.

4. Professional Awareness – understanding the opportunities and challenges of your profession. This overview of your profession gives an in-depth understanding of related associations and sources of information. It helps you maintain a high level of mastery in the dynamic world of your profession.

5. Paperwork – the administrative system. How to comply with regulatory and professional requirements and manage the administrative details of your practice. The cost of doing administration (time & money) may be high, but the price if you don’t may be even higher!

6. Professional Relationships – how to collaborate and network for business success. Do you have the knowledge and skills needed to communicate with individuals and groups with whom you often interact so that you get along professionally? This skill helps you deal professionally with associates, other practitioners, those who pay you for your services and those who supply you with products and services.

7. Positioning – focusing your business by choosing unique specialties aligned with your vision. Research and develop your professional and technical skills so that you have a successful enterprise that no one else can copy.

8. Packaging – how to create an image that matches your business identity. Does your look communicate your identity? Do you attract committed clients who value your services and pay you what you deserve?

9. Promoting – building business income using your sales and marketing knowledge. This module involves understanding how professional marketing is different from consumer selling. Use Collaborative Marketing to generate new clients and expand the impact of your work through product sales. Mastering this system results in comprehensive sales and marketing strategies for your products and services.

10. Performing – doing routine work – your daily business responsibilities. This module encompasses the professional talents of practitioners. It embodies the knowledge and skills of managing clients. Personal skills, working with clients and communicating and delivering in one or more roles are the key components of this process.

11. Product Development – extending your business so that you have income while on vacation! Learn how to earn residual income and free up your dependence on hourly bookings with clients. Mastering the knowledge and skills of this module helps you successfully convert your knowledge into passive income,.

12. Personal Care – nurturing yourself – healthy professionals lead balanced lives. Manage your life energy. At the end of the day are you drained or energized? Actively develop and maintain your personal support systems.

  • Advisory board – your support structure for accountability and success.

  • Resources – you have the time and money to see this through.
  • Business plan– you know where you are headed and how you are going to get there.
  • Location – your business is situated in the right place at the right time.
  • Finances – cash flow is king, and your finances are understood and managed.
  • Marketing effort – you love marketing and know how to do it well.
  • Customers – without customers you don’t have a business. Who are they? How do they find you?
  • Empowerment – your customers are empowered, not draining.
  • Referrals – what is the single most important skill you must develop to succeed?
  • Visibility – social effectiveness – you love networking, attending meetings, & giving seminars!
  • Leverage – when you need help, you know how to get it.
  • Personal Balance – you are more than your business, and have a life you love.
  • Minimum Business Requirements – without them your business could fail!
  • Read “Marketing Solutions” textbook.
  • Conduct Information Interviews with people already in business like you.
  • Research the market and the competition.
  • Use the Internet to do research, send documents and emails.
  • Write your business plan using research on marketplace, competition, finances
  • Prepare a weekly schedule based on your business plan.
  • Use coaching feedback forms for weekly planning.
